Trubbach (Switzerland), September 5, 2011, Oerlikon Solar today introduced a new component, setting a new record with a stable power of 154 watts (peak) and a conversion efficiency of 10.8%. This means an increase of 8% compared to the previous peak power. By early 2013, this record-breaking component will be mass-produced on the Oerlikon Solar ThinFabTM production line, which will significantly reduce production costs.

With the 120 MW ThinFabTM production line, Oerlikon successfully reduced module production costs to 0.50 EUR/kWh, a reduction of nearly half compared to the previous generation. The reduction in production costs is mainly due to the optimized use of materials to strengthen the production capacity of the production line and thereby increase the output of the film.
The photovoltaic terminal market is currently mainly concentrated in Europe, the United States and Japan. Recently, Oerlikon Solar received an order for the first ThinFabTM production line from an Asian customer. The company expects that Asia will become a region of high growth potential in the future.
