Titanium dioxide prices have seen a modest upward trend in mid-May, though the overall movement remains weak. Sichuan Long Yao Titanium Industry Co., Ltd., a leading domestic producer known as "Sichuan Dragonfly," has drawn significant attention from the industry. However, the company has not yet announced any price adjustments, leaving market participants on edge.
As of now, the titanium dioxide market has stabilized, with most domestic producers quoting prices for both rutile and anatase types in the range of RMB 12,000–13,200/tonne (including tax) for rutile, and RMB 10,000–11,000/tonne for anatase. These figures reflect a relatively steady pricing environment despite earlier fluctuations.
Since April, some titanium dioxide manufacturers followed Sichuan Longxuan’s price increases, with small adjustments of 300–600 yuan per ton, or approximately 3% to 5%. This move came amid growing concerns over environmental regulations, which were highlighted at the 2013 National Titanium Dioxide Industry Annual Conference. At that event, it was revealed that the first draft of pollution control policies for the industry has been completed and is expected to be officially introduced this year. Analysts believe that as market inventory is gradually cleared and production capacity is further regulated, future price adjustments may occur, potentially reshaping the supply and demand dynamics in the sector.
Industry observers note that early May saw a slight increase in titanium dioxide prices, but as downstream users finished restocking, trader and end-user enthusiasm began to wane. Many are now focusing on inventory digestion rather than aggressive buying. The market is currently waiting for further signals from the Sichuan Longxi region, where price movements could influence the broader industry outlook. With regulatory changes on the horizon and ongoing supply-side adjustments, the titanium dioxide market remains in a state of cautious optimism.
