Toyota Determines Launch of Driverless Cars in 2020: Main Safety

According to foreign media reports, the ranks of self-driving cars will usher in new members. Toyota announced on Tuesday that the company's self-driving cars will be launched in 2020, in line with the planned time to market for Nissan, GM and Google products.

Toyota tested its own autonomous driving technology through a car called the "Highway Teammate," a modified Lexus GS that was being used on Tokyo's busy capital highway. The test vehicle has been able to autonomously complete tasks such as lane change, parallel line and departure from high speed ramp.

This year, the field of self-driving cars has always been full of embarrassment. Google said that the company will start selling related products within five years. There are rumors that Apple will enter the market in 2019, and the company plans to introduce semi-automatic electric vehicles.

Not only are the tech giants planning to get involved, but the traditional carmaker Nissan also plans to launch its first self-driving car in 2020. Tesla CEO Elon Musk also said at the Vanity Fair on Tuesday that the launch of autonomous vehicles is two to three years.

In order to make driving safer, Toyota has invested $50 million in artificial intelligence research. Stanford University and MIT will use the funds to build a cooperative research center.

Toyota is expected to announce more information at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 29.
