Imported agarwood, also known as Shenshuixiang, Yankouxiang, Penglaixiang, Mixiang, Zhilanxiang, Qingguixiang, and other names in literature, comes from the resinous heartwood of *Aquilaria agallocha* Roxb. It is mainly sourced from countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Iran, and Thailand.
Agarwood from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore is commonly referred to as "Xinzhou," known for its high quality, strong and long-lasting fragrance when burned. In contrast, Vietnamese agarwood, known as "Anxiang," has a milder scent but is sweet and pleasant, though it does not last as long as Xinzhou.
Imported agarwood typically appears cylindrical or irregular in shape, with a surface that ranges from yellow-brown to gray-black. The material is dense and heavy, often sinking in water. It emits a strong aroma, produces thick smoke, and has a powerful fragrance. When tasted, it feels warm and has a bitter flavor. It is used for relieving pain, nausea, and respiratory issues like asthma. Compared to white wood, its therapeutic effects are more potent and effective.
Agarwood has been valued for centuries in traditional medicine and spiritual practices, particularly in East Asia and the Middle East. Its unique properties make it highly sought after for incense, perfumes, and medicinal purposes. Due to its rarity and quality, imported agarwood is considered a premium product in the market.
