Floor acceptance criteria

When it comes to home decoration, especially when installing flooring, it's crucial to thoroughly inspect the quality and perform a proper acceptance process. A well-installed floor not only enhances the aesthetics of your space but also ensures long-term durability and comfort. Here are some key points to consider during the inspection:

1. Check for color consistency

The color of the floor should be uniform. If there's a noticeable difference in shade, it can affect the overall look of the room and may require replacement. However, if the color is too consistent, pay attention to the pattern on the surface to ensure it matches across all pieces.

2. Test for hollow sounds

Walk over the floor with extra pressure, especially near walls and door openings. If you hear any hollow or loose sounds, mark the area and ask the installer to fix it. This could indicate poor installation or improper support underneath.

3. Inspect for warping and deformation

To check for flatness, place a 2-meter straightedge against the floor. The maximum allowable gap should not exceed 3 mm. Any significant deviation may mean the floor has warped or settled unevenly.

4. Evaluate the baseboard installation

Ensure that the gap between the baseboard and the door frame is no more than 2 mm. The seams between baseboards should be tight, with a maximum gap of 1 mm. Also, the space between the baseboard and the floor should be between 3 mm and 5 mm, and the height difference between baseboard joints should not exceed 1 mm.

5. Check the door threshold installation

The door threshold should be installed directly under the door. After closing the door, there should be a small gap (between 3 mm and 7 mm) between the threshold and the bottom of the door to allow smooth opening and closing. The threshold must be firmly fixed—gently kick the middle part to check for looseness or unusual noise.

6. Final inspection of the floor surface

Look for any visible imperfections such as gaps, scratches, or uneven textures. These issues might be caused by untreated subflooring or the presence of pests like termites. Make sure the surface is clean and free from defects before finalizing the installation.
