Sulfuric acid is one of the most commonly used and highly corrosive industrial chemicals. Its effect on materials varies significantly depending on concentration and temperature. For concentrated sulfuric acid (over 80% concentration) at temperatures below 80°C, carbon steel and cast iron show good corrosion resistance. However, they are not suitable for high-speed flow applications or as materials for pumps and valves. Common stainless steels like 304 (0Cr18Ni9) and 316 (0Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti) also have limited use in sulfuric acid environments. High-silicon cast iron and high-alloy stainless steels such as No. 20 alloy are often used for sulfuric acid pumps and valves, but these materials are difficult to process and expensive, making them less favorable. Fluoroplastics, a patented material developed by the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, offers excellent resistance to sulfuric acid. Our company has been using this technology since 1985, pioneering the development of corrosion-resistant chemical pumps. According to experiments conducted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, fluoroplastics do not react with any chemical medium, making F46-based pumps a more cost-effective solution. Our corrosion-resistant centrifugal pump products include: IHF fluoroplastic chemical pumps, FSB fluoroplastic centrifugal pumps, IGF fluoroplastic-lined pipeline pumps, PF-type corrosion-resistant centrifugal pumps, and CQB-F type fluoroplastic magnetic pumps.
Hydrochloric acid is another common corrosive medium. Most metals are vulnerable to hydrochloric acid corrosion, except for molybdenum-containing ferrosilicon, which can only be used in concentrations below 30% at temperatures below 50°C. Non-metallic materials, however, generally perform well in hydrochloric acid environments. Lined rubber pumps and plastic pumps made from engineering plastics or fluoroplastics are the best options for transporting hydrochloric acid. Our company offers fluoroplastic chemical pump series that are suitable for such applications.
Nitric acid is highly corrosive to most metals, but stainless steel is widely used for nitric acid pumps due to its excellent corrosion resistance across all concentrations at room temperature. It's worth noting that molybdenum-containing stainless steels like 316 or 316L may not perform as well as standard stainless steels like 304 or 321 in some cases. For high-temperature nitric acid, fluoroplastic alloys are preferred. Our product range includes IHF fluoroplastic chemical pumps, FSB fluoroplastic centrifugal pumps, IGF fluoroplastic-lined pipeline pumps, PF-type corrosion-resistant centrifugal pumps, and CQB-F fluoroplastic magnetic pumps.
Acetic acid is one of the most aggressive organic acids. Ordinary steel is severely corroded in all concentrations and temperatures of acetic acid. Stainless steel, especially molybdenum-containing 316, is an excellent choice for acetic acid resistance, even at high temperatures and low concentrations. For high-temperature and high-concentration acetic acid or other harsh conditions, high-alloy stainless steel magnetic pumps or fluoroplastic chemical pumps such as the CQB-type stainless steel magnetic pump, CQ-type magnetic drive pump, stainless steel pipe centrifugal pump, and stainless steel chemical pump are recommended.
Alkaline solutions like sodium hydroxide are generally less corrosive, but they can cause crystallization, which requires special sealing configurations. Silicide or graphite mechanical seals are recommended, along with FSB-type plastic fluoroplastic centrifugal pumps.
Ammonia and ammonia hydroxide are relatively non-corrosive to most materials, except for copper and copper alloys. Our pumps, including IHF fluoroplastic chemical pumps, FSB fluoroplastic centrifugal pumps, IGF fluoroplastic pipeline pumps, PF-type corrosion-resistant centrifugal pumps, CQB-F fluoroplastic magnetic pumps, and CQF-type plastic magnetic pumps, are suitable for ammonia transportation.
Saltwater and seawater are moderately corrosive to ordinary steel, so protective coatings like paint are typically used. Various types of stainless steel, especially 316, offer good corrosion resistance, though localized corrosion can occur due to chloride ions. Many of our pumps are configured with 316 stainless steel, such as the IH stainless steel chemical pump.
Alcohols, ketones, esters, and ethers are generally less corrosive. Methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, acetone, butanone, methyl esters, ethyl esters, and various ethers can usually be handled with ordinary stainless steel. However, it's important to note that these substances can dissolve certain types of rubber, so selecting the right seal material is crucial. Inorganic-sealed fluoroplastic magnetic pumps are recommended.
There are many other media that we can handle, and while we can't cover each one individually here, our experience in material selection is well-established and proven. If you're looking for the latest order information or buyer details, feel free to reach out. We're always ready to help!
