A few days ago, a man from Jilin City was seen attempting a high-speed descent on the Lanao Bridge in Beishan Park. Witnesses reported that the rope he was using snapped mid-ride, causing him to fall from the bridge and sustain fatal injuries. He was later taken to the Third People's Hospital of Jilin City for emergency care, but tragically, he did not survive.
The reporter visited the site near the bridge and found a sign indicating the height is 15.7 meters. According to local witnesses, the man was rushed to the hospital after the incident, and the police arrived soon after to collect the broken rope as part of their investigation.
Mr. Shao, an eyewitness, described what he saw while clearing snow nearby. He said he noticed a man and a girl arriving at the bridge. "The man tied one end of the rope to the guardrail on the western side and the other end around himself. He also fastened his seatbelt before stepping over the railing. His body was hanging in the air when suddenly the rope snapped, and he fell heavily to the ground."
Mr. Shao ran over and saw the man lying on the ground with a green rope, about the size of a thumb, on the ground. Emergency responders arrived and transported the man down the hill to the hospital. It has since been confirmed that the victim, surnamed Zhang, was 24 years old.
Mr. Jiang Chengmin, who was filming the event, shared his account: "I was holding the camera, watching the man descend. All of a sudden, I lost sight of him. When I looked back, he had fallen to the ground."
Mr. Yan, another witness, said he saw the man and a girl in yellow clothes. "He stepped over the bridge railing, said 'Ready,' and then started to descend. I was curious, so I switched my camera to continuous mode and focused on him."
After the fall, Mr. Yan ran toward the scene and saw the man carrying a backpack, wearing a white safety belt, and descending on a single rope. "The girl in yellow immediately ran down to call for help, and someone assisted in removing his backpack and dialing emergency services," he added.
By 3 p.m. yesterday, the reporter visited the hospital and learned that the man had died despite efforts to save him. The police are now investigating the incident, and the exact cause of death will be determined through further examination.
