In early August, major steel producers such as WISCO, Taigang, Shougang, Tiangang, and Baosteel have continued to increase the ex-factory prices of construction materials. This comes after a period of fluctuating market conditions, with steel mills adjusting prices in response to changing demand and supply dynamics.
Yesterday, several steel companies announced their price adjustments for August. While these large mills maintained upward pressure on building material prices, the scale of this round of increases was notably smaller compared to July. This suggests that the industry is gradually stabilizing, though price volatility remains a concern for buyers.
Among the key players, Shanxi Iron and Steel showed the least significant changes. For its primary construction products, only rebar saw a minor adjustment of 20 yuan per ton, while high-line steel and plate screws remained unchanged. Taigang raised stainless steel prices by 50 yuan per ton, and cold-rolled stainless steel plates increased by 30 yuan per ton. Meanwhile, Baotou Steel made more substantial adjustments, raising the prices of stainless steel and cold-rolled steel by 90 and 100 yuan per ton, respectively.
Taigang also commented on the broader market situation, noting that the steel market experienced a rebound in July, leading to increased production and inventory levels. As a result, the balance between supply and demand shifted again, creating tighter conditions. However, recent market trends have shown a slight downward movement, prompting mills to slow down the pace of price hikes. According to the company, the steel market is expected to enter a consolidation phase in the near term.
With ongoing uncertainties in the global economy and domestic demand, steel producers are carefully monitoring market signals before making further adjustments. Buyers are advised to stay informed about future price movements and plan accordingly.
