Global crude steel output in July increased by 2.7% year-on-year

Abstract According to data released by the World Steel Association, global crude steel production in July saw a 2.7% year-on-year increase, reaching 132.32 million tons—marking a new high for the month and continuing the 11th consecutive month of growth. This upward trend highlights a strong recovery in the global steel industry despite ongoing economic uncertainties.

China’s crude steel output rose by 6.2% year-on-year in July to 65.47 million tons, setting a new record for the period and ranking as the fourth-highest monthly output in history. With domestic demand growing at a slower pace, Chinese steel producers have turned to international markets, with exports exceeding 5 million tons for five months in a row. Meanwhile, the U.S. recorded a 3.3% rise in steel production, reaching 7.56 million tons, driven by robust car sales and housing construction. In contrast, the European Union, still grappling with economic challenges, saw a 6% drop in production to 13.4 million tons—its 22nd consecutive month of decline. These trends reflect the uneven recovery across different regions, with some markets showing resilience while others continue to face headwinds.
