1. Adjust the planting schedule of watermelons grown in open fields based on local weather conditions, either earlier or later than usual, to ensure that the flowering and fruiting periods avoid rainy seasons. This helps with better pollination and fertilization, which ultimately increases the fruit set rate.
   2. Use artificial pollination for the second and third female flowers during the blooming period. On sunny mornings, collect male flowers, remove their petals, and gently brush the anthers onto the female stigma. If it's raining, cover the female flowers with small plastic tubes or paper bags to protect them from rain, then perform artificial pollination. Studies show that this method can increase the fruit set rate by more than 10% compared to natural pollination on windless days, and even more than double the success rate on rainy days.
   3. When the watermelon plants have developed 4–5 true leaves and are not yet creeping, use a shovel to cut the roots about 13 cm away from the main root, making sure to dig straight down without damaging the main root. This practice does not involve turning the soil but instead breaking up the surface layer. It helps control excessive vegetative growth, prevents the stems from becoming too thin, and encourages strong root development, which is beneficial for flowering and fruit setting.
   4. This technique, known as "root water," involves placing two wooden sticks approximately 17 cm long into the ground near the root area of the second and third female flowers. The sticks are inserted so that the roots are slightly compressed but still allow for proper growth. This method helps stabilize the plant and promotes larger, healthier fruits in the future.
   5. Gently squeeze the stems behind the young watermelons until you hear a soft "snap." This action helps the fruit set more securely and prevents the melon from falling off. As the saying goes, "After the head, sitting in front of me"—meaning that careful handling at this stage ensures successful fruit formation.
