Application of reverse drawing process

Let's take the portable fire extinguisher cylinder (as shown in Figure 1) as an example to explain the principles of reverse drawing used in the production of deep cylindrical parts with a height greater than twice the diameter (h > 2d). This includes the selection of the forming process, parameter determination, mold structure formulas, and lubrication methods. A detailed explanation is provided below.

1. Process Analysis

Based on product standards, manufacturing processes, material weldability, and cost considerations, the component should be manufactured using a deep drawing process. The selected material is St12 cold-rolled low-carbon steel plate, which is equivalent to the German standard DIN1623 and is available domestically from Baosteel and WISCO. This type of steel offers good deep drawing properties and excellent weldability. Key mechanical properties are listed in Table 1.

(1) Determination of Blank Size and Deep Drawing Process

After consulting the "Stamping Design Manual," a trimming margin of 10 mm was determined for this part.
