Polyethylene terephthalate has a glass transition temperature of 69 ° C, a softening range of 230-240 ° C, and a melting point of 255-260 ° C. It has good fiber-forming properties, mechanical properties, abrasion resistance, creep resistance, low water absorption and Electrical insulation properties. PET was first produced by the UK's JR Winfield and JT Dixon in 1941 using polydimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. Due to its good fiber-forming properties, the British Buenmen Chemical Industry Company conducted an industrial trial in 1948 for polyester fiber. In the same year, PET film was produced by DuPont of the United States. In the 1950s, countries that achieved industrial production gradually increased.
Polybutylene terephthalate The chemical formula has excellent comprehensive properties, the glass transition temperature is 36 to 49 ° C, and the melting point is 220 to 225 ° C. Compared with PET, PBT has a low crystallization speed and good molding performance. In terms of mechanical properties and heat resistance, although not as good as polyoxymethylene and polyamide, but with glass fiber reinforced, its mechanical properties and heat resistance are significantly improved, tensile strength of 135 MPa, heat distortion temperature of up to 210 °C (load 186 MPa), more than glass fiber reinforced nylon-6; its water absorption is the smallest in engineering plastics. The product has good dimensional stability and is easy to be made into a flame resistant type, and the price is also low. The disadvantage is that the product is easy to warp and the molding shrinkage is uneven. PBT was first developed by Celanese in 1967 and industrialized in 1970.
