Each part plays a critical role in ensuring smooth operation and long service life. The **inner and outer rings** are subjected to high contact pressure, while the **rolling elements** experience friction and wear during motion. The **cage**, which separates the rolling elements, must maintain proper spacing and prevent direct contact between them. Therefore, the materials used for these components must meet strict requirements in terms of strength, hardness, and resistance to wear and fatigue. ### Materials Used in NSK Bearings - **Ferrules and Rolling Elements**: Typically made from **high-carbon bearing steel**, such as **SUJ2** (a common type used in most NSK bearings) or **SUJ3** for larger bearings. These steels are standardized globally, with equivalents like AISI 52100 (U.S.), DIN 100Cr6 (Germany), and BS 535A99 (UK). - **Cage Materials**: Must offer good dimensional stability, high mechanical strength, and good machinability. Depending on the application, additional properties such as impact resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance may be required. To enhance performance under heavy loads and impact, some NSK bearings use **chrome steel**, **chrome-molybdenum steel**, or **nickel-chrome-molybdenum steel**. These materials undergo **carburizing and quenching** to create a hardened surface layer while maintaining a softer core, which improves impact resistance. ### Manufacturing and Treatment Modern NSK bearings undergo **vacuum degassing treatment** to ensure high material cleanliness and low oxygen content, resulting in improved quality and reliability. Proper **heat treatment** further enhances the bearing’s life expectancy by optimizing hardness and microstructure. By selecting the right materials and applying advanced manufacturing techniques, NSK ensures that its bearings can perform reliably in demanding environments, from industrial machinery to automotive applications.
