CRRC develops the world's first commercial deep sea mining equipment

The reporter learned from China's CZ Zhuzhou that the world's first commercial deep-sea mining equipment independently developed by the company's Times Electric SMD Company has completed land testing in Newcastle, England. The equipment is scheduled to conduct a water test in the Gulf of Oman in the Middle East in 2016 and complete the product delivery.

At present, the commercial exploitation of deep sea ore in the world is still a blank. The deep sea mining machine is one of the most core equipment in the deep sea mining system, mainly composed of main cutting machine, auxiliary cutting machine and mining machine. The equipment developed by SMD weighs more than 310 tons and has a power of more than 2 megawatts. It effectively combines the company's mature technology in the fields of underwater oil and gas, trenching and cable laying, and is the world's most powerful underwater mining equipment. “Deep sea sulphide is located on the seabed at around 1,500 meters. This equipment is designed according to the needs of customers collecting deep sea sulphide and can mine ore within 2000 meters of water,” said Mike SMD's deputy CEO Mike.

In April of this year, Times Electric acquired the British company SMD, which is a company mainly engaged in the design, manufacture and sale of deep sea robot equipment, submarine trenching machinery and seabed mining equipment. In the international open market, SMD's deep-sea robots rank third in the world. The commercial deep sea mining equipment tested in the UK completed the test cabin design practice verification and purchased parts performance test during the several months of testing. According to the plan, the equipment will soon go to the Gulf of Oman in the northwestern Arabian Sea for water testing. The test includes basic underwater functional testing, equipment underwater testing and cutting, and collection testing. In the first half of 2016, the equipment will complete all water testing and delivery to a deep sea mining company in North America.
