European Commission approves Alcoa and Orkla to form soft alloy extrusion joint venture

The European Commission approved the formation of a soft alloy extrusion joint venture between Alcoa and the Norwegian Orkla Group and stated that the establishment of a joint venture will not significantly reduce competition.

The European Commission said on the 19th that Alcoa Inc. has been approved to form a joint venture with Orkla ASA, a Norwegian special materials company, to produce soft alloy extruded profiles.

After reviewing the transaction, the European Commission concluded that it will not significantly hinder effective competition.

The new joint venture company will merge the soft alloy extrusion divisions of Orkla and Alcoa, and Orkla will have a majority stake. The ultimate goal of the two companies is to make the new company listed as an independent entity.

The European Commission said that the survey results showed that the new company will continue to face several strong competitors in Europe, and competition from outside Europe will also increase.
